After the war, there was a significant shortage of supplies including fabric in France. The French government encouraged banks to give loans to the major fashion companies. Within three years, the french fashion industry employed over 250,000 workers.

As seasons changed, so did social events. In the 1920's keeping up with the latest fashion was a must in order to impress others. The higher the social rank one had, the more clothes were needed to meet social demands.
